Makan Tahun-Kedayan's Cultural Festival

The Kedayan (also known as Kedayan ,Kadaian or Kadyan are an ethnic group residing in Brunei ,Labuan, Sabah, Jepun and part of Sarawak. The Kedayan language is national language of Brunei in Sabah ,the kedayan are mainly live in Sipitang ,Beaufort ,Kuala Penyu , and Papar. While in Sarawak, the Kedayan's are mostly reside in Lawas ,Limbang, Miri and Bekenu area.

Like other ethnic, Kedayan's have their own unique traditional ceremony, which is called ''Makan Tahun''.''Makan Tahun'' held annually by the Kedayan's in northern parts of Sarawak.

''Makan Tahun'' is a thankgiving festival that held to indicate happiness and appreciation for a successful rice harvest.Besides that,it's also a symbolic of the unity of Kedayan's people.But now,''Makan Tahun" is alike ''Tahlil''(muslim prayer).

Normally,Friday is the first day to Kedayan's people,man and woman will cook ''Kelupis'',Kedayan's traditional food.Kelupis is a rice that wrapping in the "nyirik'' leaves.On the second day,they are normally cooking and do the preparation for the ceremony.At the night,''Bermukun",a unique traditional entertainment of Sarawakian's will entertain the villagers and the visitor.And the third day will be peak celebration for this ceremony.
